Environmental Health

  What Is Environmental Health?

A healthy earth produces healthy people. Human wellness and illness results from an interaction between three elements:

  • environmental factors
  • individual susceptibility and
  • age

The environment means all things in the sky, water and earth. Professionals, practitioners and scientists in fields related to environmental science focus on the problems associated with abuse of natural resources such as air, forests, oceans, lakes, and ground. They associate human health with the health of other life forms. They study and regulate manufacturing by-products. They connect problems of over population with depletion of resources, illness and death. They are interested in fuel, heat, cooking transportation and resultant pollution. They investigate specific illnesses like cancer and Alzheimer's to find cause and cure. They develop policy for governments. They alert the public to hidden dangers that can cause unnecessary illness. They are concerned with communicable illnesses, worldwide exposure and epidemics. They report illness caused by exposure to toxic substances like radium and asbestos and pesticides. They link food safety to people safety. They promote the use of sustainable resources for energy. They are often activists, using many means to gain attention to problems with public impact potential.

Environmental pollution and protection affects us all. Enlightened, informed citizens are essential to the protection of our community. We want environmental health. We appreciate the efforts of local groups like the Park Forest Environment Conservation Commission with whom we partner for information distribution. We plan to present information with a local emphasis and links to information with a wider scope. We are one world.
